What is a user badge?

The user badge can be scanned at your Keycafe base SmartBox to authenticate the user without the need for 2FA or a pin. 

 

How does it work?

To create a badge, you start with a new Keycafe NFC fob or Keycafe NFC badge that has not been used to set up a key. You associate this NFC fob with the user by editing the user in your Keycafe admin.

Once the badge is set up, the user can scan their badge to the SmartBox scanner to authenticate and the SmartBox screen will display all keys they are authorized to pick up. This eliminates the need to enter a PIN or use the Keycafe app to authenticate. The badge also bypasses the 2FA authentication if you have set that up in your account. 

This is a feature that is ideal for fast pickups and drop offs. 

Security Notice

The badge should be kept secure by the user as anyone who finds this fob will have access to the keys associated with the user.

IMPORTANT: Before you start

For user badge functionality, your SmartBox must be updated to the firmware v87 or later. Check your firmware version with the following steps:

  1. Press the SmartBox Screen to start.
  2. Press “Help & More”.
  3. Press “Device Status”.

If your SmartBox is displaying a version below v87, please contact customer support to request the latest version available for your model. 

 

Adding a new user badge

  1. Log into www.keycafe.com.
  2. Select Users from the menu options.
  3. Select the user whose user badge you wish to add or edit.
  4. Select “About User”.
  5. Enter the serial number of an unused Keycafe fob or Keycafe badge.
  6. Select “Update Badge”.

 

Removing a user badge

  1. Log into www.keycafe.com.
  2. Select Users from the menu options.
  3. Select the user whose user badge you wish to remove.
  4. Select “About User”.
  5. Select “Revoke Badge”.
