Dropping off a key is an easy process that can be done with or without the Keycafe iOS or Android app. Once dropped off, the keys will be stored in an isolated key bin and available for others to pickup.
To drop off keys with a Keycafe fob already attached, please proceed with the following steps:
Key Owner Dropping Off Keys for the First Time
If you are a key-owner dropping off your keys for the first time, visit Setting Up a Key with a Keycafe Fob.

Dropping Off Keys Using a Booking Code at the SmartBox
- Locate your Keycafe SmartBox.
- On the SmartBox touch screen, Touch Screen to Start.
- Select Key Drop Off.
- Enter your Access Code. This code will be the code associated with your Keycafe account or the code you received in your access communication (more information below).
- Select Enter.
- Scan the key fob by placing the fob that is attached to your key on the scan area of the SmartBox (usually on the right side of the box or right of the screen). Upon scanning, you will hear a beep sound followed by a key bin door opening.
- Place your keys in the open key bin and close the key bin door firmly.
You are all done!
Ensure all doors on the SmartBox are closed before you leave.
Dropping Off Keys Using the Booking Link
- Go to the same Keycafe location and find the SmartBox on the wall.
- In the email or SMS you received for the booking, tap CLICK FOR YOUR BOOKING on a mobile phone.
- From the My Booking page, tap Drop Off the Keys, and select Next.
- Scan the fob attached to the key on the scan area of the SmartBox (usually on the right side of the box or right of the screen). Upon scanning, you will hear a beep sound followed by a key bin door opening.
- Place your keys in the open key bin and close the key bin door firmly.
Finding Your Code

If you are a registered user, your code is usually the same as your mobile number (including the country code). You can find your access code by navigating to More -> Account -> Global SmartBox Codes.

If you are a visitor and have been provided with an access via email or SMS, you have received an email that included a secure and unique access code. Please use that code to access the keys.
