Premium Feature for MS5 SmartBoxes

Video Recording is a feature only available to users with an MS5 SmartBox on the Premium and Business Pro plans.

Enable or Disable Video Recording


Video recording settings are location-specific, so users with multiple locations will need to enable the settings individually. Only the account owner and organization admins can access video recording settings.

  1. On the desktop app, select Locations from the left menu. On mobile, select More → Private Locations.
  2. Select the location you'd like to enable video recording for.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Toggle on Key Exchange Event Videos.
  5. For Business Pro users, you can optionally toggle on Upload to Cloud to view footage in the Keycafe app. Footage is uploaded when the SmartBox is idle, so you may need to wait a few minutes before viewing newly recorded video.

Cloud Video Upload on Cellular Connection

Note that SmartBoxes on a cellular connection are unable to upload videos to the cloud, but video playback remains available on the SmartBox screen. Support for uploading still image snapshots is coming soon.

 

Change Recording Trigger


You can choose to begin video recordings either when the SmartBox proximity sensor detects movement within 2 feet, or when the screen is interacted with.

Under the Key Exchange Event Videos setting, select which trigger option you'd prefer.

Excessive Recordings with Motion Sensor Trigger

If your SmartBox is installed in a location with a high level of physical movement or expected motion in front of the SmartBox, we suggest using the Screen Interaction trigger to avoid filling your video log with accidental videos.

If your SmartBox records more than ten times the number of actual key pickups or drop offs within a 30-day period, the trigger will be automatically changed to Screen Interaction. The Organization owner will receive an email notification if this change is made.

 

View Recorded Videos


For users on the Premium plan, recorded videos can only be viewed on the SmartBox screen. Cloud storage for viewing in the Keycafe app is available on the Business Pro plan (must be turned on in Settings).

For Premium users, since you need to be physically at the SmartBox to view recorded videos, we recommend using the mobile app to complete the following steps.

  1. In the mobile app, select More → Private Locations. If using the desktop app, select Locations from the left menu.
  2. Select the location you'd like to view video recording of.
  3. Select Troubleshoot → Exchange Event Videos.
  4. Select View videos on the SmartBox or View videos in the cloud.
  5. If you chose the SmartBox option, tap the button that appears on the SmartBox screen.

 

Video Storage Information


A SmartBox can store ~25 GB of video (roughly 40 hours of footage) and will begin erasing the oldest files when it reaches capacity. Videos over 14 days old are also automatically deleted.
