About After-Hours Key Drop Offs

Some businesses may choose to install their Keycafe SmartBox on the exterior of their business to enable customers to drop off keys independently (without a Keycafe fob attached to the key). A common example would be a vehicle repair shop or auto dealership allowing customers to drop off their car after-hours for service.

To begin using this workflow, click the button below and follow the instructions to submit your Keycafe account info. Once the form is submitted, we will contact you with a personalized QR code and poster that you can print out and place next to your SmartBox. You can then begin allowing customers to drop off keys without Keycafe fobs.

How it Works

1. Customer arrives at the SmartBox at your business and scans a QR code on the poster next to it, prompting them to fill out a short questionnaire that asks them for:

• First and Last Name
• Mobile Number
• Vehicle Make / Model
• License Plate
• Reason for Drop Off

2. After submitting the questionnaire, they receive an SMS with a key code and instructions for key drop off at the SmartBox.
3. They drop their key off into the SmartBox using the code.
4. Your Keycafe app will automatically create a key with the name "[First Name] [Last Name]’s [Make/Model] Keys", using the information from the customer's questionnaire. All other details from the questionnaire will be included in the key's description.
5. Your team can pick up the key from the SmartBox using the key code, and once service is complete, the key can be placed back into the SmartBox for customer pickup.
