Battery Power and Offline Mode

In this article:

Battery Power

MS5 and MS4 SmartBoxes that become unplugged or lose power will continue running on the 3500 mAh Li-ion battery backup system. SmartBoxes on battery power can perform 50-100 key pickups or drop offs, depending on conditions and patterns of use.

Hibernation Behaviour

When the battery falls below 80% charge, the SmartBox will enter a hibernation mode after one minute of inactivity to conserve power. To turn the SmartBox back on, simply press the reset button once. After use, hibernation will continue again after one minute of inactivity, until the SmartBox is plugged back in.

What Happens when the SmartBox is Offline?

If SmartBoxes go offline due to signal strength issues or a dropped connection, they can execute a basic set of functionalities. This includes key pickups and drop offs based on the SmartBox's most recent sync with the cloud, as well as the ability to unlock the bins and the SmartBox backplate lock using offline codes.

Offline Key Exchange

Offline Key Exchange is a feature built into MS5 and MS4 SmartBoxes that enables organizations to have uninterrupted access to their keys, even if the SmartBox loses connection to the cloud.

See Offline Key Exchange for more details.
