Replacing/Upgrading your SmartBox

Swapping in a New SmartBox

If you're upgrading or replacing your existing SmartBox setup with new units, you must first remove all keys from the outgoing units and make a few small changes in the Keycafe app. Keep in mind that all account settings and data - keys, users, groups, organizations, etc - will remain intact. Follow these simple steps to ensure your new hardware installation goes smoothly.

Disconnecting the Old SmartBox

1. Remove Keys

You must first physically remove all keys from the outgoing SmartBoxes. You can do this either by picking up the keys in the SmartBoxes normally, or by opening all bins, physically removing the keys, then marking the keys as removed in the app.

2. Dismount SmartBoxes

Once all keys are removed from the outgoing SmartBoxes, dismount them from the wall to make room for your new SmartBoxes. See steps for dismounting your SmartBoxes.

3. Unlink SmartBoxes

Once your SmartBoxes are off the wall, you can unlink them from your Location. See Unlink a SmartBox from a Location for details.

Base Stations vs Expansions

If you are replacing a Base Station (the primary SmartBox with screen, scanner, etc), you will need to perform the above two steps for all expansions in the Location as well. If you are replacing just an Expansion unit, you perform the steps just for the outgoing Expansion(s).

Connecting the New SmartBox

Once the outgoing SmartBoxes are removed from your Location, you can simply add the new SmartBoxes to the same Location and drop your keys back off into the new SmartBoxes.
